Theatre Royal Wakefield and Creative Director John Godber are excited to announce a brand new venture with acclaimed playwright Jim Cartwright. In 2017 we'll be co-producing and touring his latest play Stand Up Stand Up, marking the start of an exciting new partnership and providing the launch pad for the newly formed Jim Cartwright Company.
Cartwright visited the theatre in June with Raz, and is best known for his internationally acclaimed work across stage and screen, with his many award winning plays including Road, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and Two. Cartwright will work with Theatre Royal Wakefield to co-produce the world premiere of Stand Up Stand Up, before taking it on tour to venues across the UK.
Creative Director John Godber says:
“...it's great that Jim feels compelled to use Theatre Royal Wakefield to showcase his latest play. The theatre is fast becoming a hub for northern talent and has created a new writing platform.”
Executive Director Katie Town adds:
“With this new relationship with Jim Cartwright and John Godber as our Creative Director, Theatre Royal Wakefield has attracted two world-class writers to make their base in Wakefield. We’re delighted to be expanding our in-house productions and to be doing so in partnership with two of the greatest living playwrights working in the UK.”
Jim Cartwright says:
'I am excited and thrilled by this collaboration with Theatre Royal Wakefield in the producing and launching of my new play and the Jim Cartwright Company, from what is fast becoming a real powerhouse for new drama, already spearheaded by nationally acclaimed productions of John Godber's works'.
