Shakespeare Schools Festival

Theatre Royal Wakefield is for everyone in the district. That’s why we are proud to present work from our local community, societies and groups. We work with over 20 local amateur groups who offer performance opportunities for all in a diverse range of genres such as musicals, plays and dance shows. Book these shows to see local talent on stage, or if you fancy treading the boards yourself, get in touch with one of the societies using the details provided.

Shakespeare Schools Foundation is proud to present the world’s largest youth drama festival at Theatre Royal Wakefield!

Join us for an exhilarating evening, featuring a series of unique abridged Shakespeare productions by local schools. See Shakespeare’s timeless stories brought to life like never before, and support young people from your community as they take to the stage.

“Every child in every school ought to have the chance to experience this magical process.”
Philip Pullman, Author and SSF Patron

Shakespeare Schools Foundation is a cultural education charity, transforming lives through the unique power of Shakespeare. Our annual Festival provides a platform for up to 30,000 young people to express themselves and grow in confidence as they take to a professional stage. This year we mark our 18th birthday with a Season of Democracy in which young people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities have been finding their ‘voice’ in their school rehearsal room, culminating in a thrilling night of theatre.

Details of the schools performing can be found on SSF’s website.
