News Story
Theatre Royal Wakefield’s Participation team loved working in partnership with The Addy (The Old Quarry Adventure Playground) in Knottingley last week as part of their free Festival of Play. Our artists ran playful activities with a fun circus theme and had a blast working with a variety of child and young people’s groups using performing arts skills.
The Wild Tots group (under 5’s) came with us on a hunt for the missing fleas from the flea circus. The Run Riot Group (for children with Additional Needs and their families) used their bodies and voices to recreate famous circus acts including The Wall of Death and The Strong Man competition and the Youth Group (13-19 year olds) made suggestions for The Naffest Show on Earth!
All in all - we ran seven sessions and engaged with 86 participants!
Even a massive rainstorm didn’t stop us for long! The Addy has provided an accessible safe place to play, adventure and be free to the people of the Warwick Estate for over 40 years. We hope to be back there soon.
