News Story
For the first time this year the Westgate Heritage Action Zone are offering a full day of free events to celebrate the rich heritage of the Westgate area and we are delighted to be opening our doors as part of the event.
Whether you're interested in History, Culture or just want to find out more, make sure you head to Westgate on Sunday 18 September for a day of free activities!
Theatre Tours
Take a free tour of the Theatre to explore behind-the-scenes areas not normally open to the public. Learn more about our Grade II* building’s rich history and iconic design.
See Westgate’s history brought to life during two live performances and a mini-documentary film screening: Empath Action: This Building Tells a Story and Wayne Stables: The Merrie City.
With funding from Historic England and Wakefield Council, the Upper Westgate Heritage Action zone have worked with partner venues Theatre Royal Wakefield, Gissing Centre and The Art House along with artists, creatives and local historians to create a packed programme of engaging events suitable for all the family.
The team behind the project will be based in our Box Office Cafe/Bar between 10am and 4pm to share the research that has been done so far. They will be sharing progress on a new Greener Westgate project with a participatory activity, handing out maps for commissioned self-guided trail Westgate Rising, and can let you know everything else that is happening throughout the day.
